FFPE RNA Extraction Kits: Isolate High-Quality RNA from FFPE Tissue

FFPE RNA refers to RNA extracted from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue — a standard method of preserving clinical tissue specimens for long-term archival storage. The fixation process chemically crosslinks nucleic acids and proteins, causing RNA fragmentation. Despite this, high-quality FFPE RNA can be recovered using purpose-built extraction chemistries and used in RNA-seq, gene expression profiling, fusion detection, and biomarker studies.

RNA is best stored in RNase-free water or TE buffer (10 mM Tris-HCl, 1 mM EDTA, pH 8.0) at –70°C to –80°C for long-term preservation. For short-term use, –20°C storage in RNase-free water is acceptable. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. RNA storage buffers like RNA Later can also stabilize samples prior to extraction, especially for FFPE-derived material.
